Awards and Accolades

We are very proud of our faculty’s contributions to the field of pediatric hematology/oncology. Here are a few highlights of recent honors.

David Nathan, MD, Dana-Farber president emeritus, has been chosen to receive the John Stearns Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Medicine. The honor, established in 1992 by the New York Academy of Medicine, is awarded for extraordinary contributions during a professional lifetime. Nathan plans to accept the solid bronze medal at the 162nd annual meeting of the Fellows of the Academy in New York on Nov. 17.

Loren Walensky, MD, PhD, attending physician in Hematology/Oncology, won one of the new NIH Director's Transformative R01 Awards for a study called “A lexicon of stapled peptide helices engineered to capture the protein interactom.”

Stuart Orkin, MD, chair of the Department of Pediatric Oncology, has received the Basic Science Mentor Award from the American Society of Hematology (ASH). The award recognizes hematologists who have excelled at mentoring trainees and colleagues.

Eva Guinan, MD, associate director of the Center for Clinical and Translational Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, recently received the Distinguished Service Award from the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund (FARF). It is FARF's highest honor, and recognizes Dr. Guinan’s extraordinary leadership in advancing clinical care for Fanconi Anemia patients.

Samuel Lux, MD, vice-chair for Research, director of the Internship Selection Committee and vice-chair for Science in the Department of Medicine, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Boston Business Journal as part of its annual Champions in Healthcare issue.
